Here, the rear lens assembly and the inner helicoid form one single plastic part. According to the drawings and pictures here, the rear lens element is attached with three screws to the inner helicoid. To clean the inner helicoid, one has to open the lens from the rear and to remove the rear lens assembly. However, now the changed design of the RS version came into play. Thus, I could not remove the iris assembly completely, and I decided to clean the the whole inner helicoid as others did successfully according to their reports here. Someone here suggested to use a safety pen instead of the depicted dental tool, but I am hesitant to sacrifice one of those at the moment. This first reason was up to my inability and lack of the right tools to remove the snap ring. Unfortunatly, I did not succeed for two reasons. Last night I tried to fix the oily blades of an AF 50/1.7 RS, thus the newer and "restyled" version.
